As part of its economic empowerment work through savings and rotating credit groups (PCR), carried out by ANANDJIRA in partnership with ForAfrika, the share-out of savings and the close of the second savings cycle took place on 6 and 20 September 2024 in two of the five groups in the locality of Mútua, Dondo district.
The two groups completing this cycle have 38 members – 17 men and 21 women – all from low-income, vulnerable households.
ANANDJIRA is very positive about the results, highlighting the significant impact of these activities on the lives of participants and on the community as a whole. This economic strengthening is especially important given the current hunger crisis affecting many communities as a result of the El Niño-induced drought, which has hit the centre and south of the country hard and left many families extremely vulnerable.
Through its PCR activities, ANANDJIRA has engaged and empowered low-income communities, fostering a culture of saving. During each cycle, families save regular amounts that can be invested in their small livelihood businesses, used to buy food or build their homes, or spent on other essential needs. These activities also help shorten the distance communities have to travel to buy basic goods, contributing to a significant improvement in local quality of life.
Through these initiatives, ANANDJIRA reaffirms its commitment to the economic and social empowerment of communities, promoting sustainable, practical solutions to tackle vulnerability and poverty.
