Context
Why this project?
Búzi district is among the areas of Sofala province most affected by natural disasters. Cyclone Idai in 2019 and the floods that followed destroyed homes, crops and livelihoods, leaving many families without a stable income. Women, many of them heads of household, also face barriers to credit and information.
The "An Informed Community Makes the Difference" project gives communities practical tools for social change. It promotes education, preventive health, economic empowerment and social inclusion, with a focus on women, adolescents and young people.
In Búzi, the project created and supports community savings groups. Each member regularly contributes small amounts and, together, the groups provide rotating micro-loans for income-generating activities, household expenses or small businesses. More than money, the groups build trust, solidarity and shared responsibility.
The project is funded by the Elma Foundation and Masana wa Afrika.
