Context
Why this project?
The first years of life are decisive for a child's development. In Mozambique, however, access to early childhood education is still very limited, and in the poorest neighbourhoods of Beira many children start Grade 1 without ever having been in a classroom, with little contact with Portuguese and no school routine.
To respond to this reality, ANANDJIRA founded the "Happy and Smart Child" Community Preschool in the city of Beira in 2012. Today it is the heart of the Association's mission: to protect, educate and create opportunities for children, especially the most vulnerable.
We offer a safe and welcoming environment, with attentive support and a methodology focused on each child's all-round development. The children learn Portuguese and English, go on guided outings and, at the end of the cycle, take part in a graduation ceremony with a certificate and a guaranteed place in Grade 1.
By preparing children before primary school, the Preschool gives them a solid foundation for their first school years and brings families closer to their children's education.
